Below we’ve outlined some meeting highlights and information that will be of use to you during your time at the AMCLC. Should you have any questions please direct them to the ACR RFS Staff Liaison, Trina Madison (tmadison@acr.org) or a member of the RFS Executive Committee (rfs@acr.org).
Meeting Breakdown
Resident and Fellow Section Program
The RFS program is held from Saturday, May 4 to Sunday May 5. The meeting is programmed entirely by the RFS Executive Committee, and covers educational sessions from various leaders in radiology related to the five pillars of the ACR (advocacy, clinical research, economics, education, and quality and safety), networking sessions, and general business (including elections). The agenda for the meeting is explained in further detail in this packet.
ACR Council Meeting
The ACR Council will convene on Sunday, May 5 at 12:30 pm. The RFS program pauses at this point to allow residents and fellows to attend the beginning of the Council meeting. This portion of the meeting is open to all meeting attendees and continues until Tuesday afternoon and also consists of an educational program, elections, and discussion of ACR resolutions. In this portion of the meeting, you will see the policy‐making body of the College at work and observe the democratic debate surrounding policy‐altering resolutions and proposed changes to the College’s bylaws. This “House of Radiology” is where all key issues affecting our profession are debated. The agenda for this portion of the meeting is explained in further detail in this packet.
Capitol Hill Congressional Visits
This portion of the meeting occurs on the final day, Wednesday, May 8 and is coordinated through the individual state societies and the Radiology Political Action Committee (RADPAC). The Capitol Hill visits are considered an integral part of the meeting which allows the College to directly deliver our message to Congress. Attendees should make all efforts to attend this portion of the meeting.
What’s New For 2013?
Executive Committee (EC) Elections
The election process for the EC has changed this year and will be conducted via electronic voting through the AMCLC website. Information has been included highlighting the new election process and changes for 2013.
Advanced Tracks for Repeat Meeting Attendees
Two separate tracks have been planned to avoid redundancy and to enhance the meeting for both repeat RFS meeting attendees and first time attendees. Make sure to note these sessions on the agenda and to attend the appropriate session.
Radiology Leadership Institute Mini‐Session at the RFS Meeting
The Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) will be hosting a mini‐session for our section entitled, “Setting a Strategic Course,” given by Dr. Alexander Norbash. This session will provide residents and fellows with insight into the RLI and will allow us to participate in a leadership course without formally enrolling in the RLI program.
Social Events and Convocation Information
RFS Welcome Reception
The reception will be held on Saturday evening from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. This reception provides an opportunity for RFS attendees to mingle with members of the ACR leadership and chapter leaders. In addition, your colleagues who have recently completed training and are now members of the Young and Early Career Physician Section (YPS) have been invited to attend.
Post‐Meeting Social Events
The RFS Executive Committee will identify locations for post‐meeting social events on Saturday and Sunday evening. These events are not part of the formal meeting agenda but will provide you with an excellent opportunity to interact with other attendees in a casual setting. Venues will be close to the Washington Hilton and more information will be available during the meeting.
ACR Fellowship Convocation
The ACR Fellowship Convocation is held on Sunday evening beginning at 5:30pm. During this ceremony, the status of ACR Fellow will be conferred on over 100 new fellows. In addition, the ACR Gold Medal and Honorary Fellow designation will be awarded. You are strongly encouraged to attend and join us in recognizing these distinguished individuals. The President’s Reception for New Fellows will take place immediately following Convocation.
RADPAC Reception
The RADPAC Reception will take place on Tuesday, May 7 from 6:00 – 7:00pm at the Washington Hilton. All meeting attendees are invited to attend. If you did not RSVP for the reception on your registration form, you can sign‐up on‐site at the Government Relations/RADPAC booth.
AMCLC Web site (http://amclc.acr.org)
The AMCLC web site is the place to find all information for the 2013 meeting. The complete agenda for the RFS and the entire meeting can be found here, along with the resolutions that will be discussed during the Council Meeting. The site also includes great instructional videos for those attendees who may be unclear about how parliamentary procedure works or want to better understand the College Governance. The RFS online voting will be accessed through this website.
Preparing for the Meeting: What to Wear?
The prevailing attire for the meeting is business casual. For men, this includes slacks, polo‐type shirts, blazers or sweaters. For women, this includes slacks, skirts, polo‐type shirts and blouses, blazers, sweaters and comfortable shoes. For more formal sessions, including the ACR Convocation and the Capitol Hill Visits on Wednesday, May 8 business attire is appropriate. Please note that all meeting rooms are air‐conditioned so a light sweater or jacket is advisable.
4th Annual ACR‐RFS Poster Session
The 2013 AMCLC will feature the 4th Annual ACR‐RFS Poster Session highlighting resident research in Advocacy and Government Relations, Clinical Research, Economics and Health Policy, Education, and Quality and Safety. Approximately 50 posters will be presented at the meeting. Posters will be displayed in Columbia Hall on the Terrace Level of the Washington Hilton, and also available for electronic viewing on the AMCLC web site (http://amclc.acr.org).
Seating in the ACR Council Room – International Ballroom Center, Concourse Level
Sunday
The Council will convene for the first time on Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm. There will be a reserved section for RFS members. Please sit in this section to be recognized by the Council speaker during his opening remarks.
Monday and Tuesday
When the Council convenes on Monday and Tuesday seating will be by state chapter. You should locate your chapter on the seating chart (found on the AMCLC website, at the back of the Council room, or available at the registration desk) and sit with your state delegation. |

RFS Election - Vote Now
Note: you must be on the hotel WIFI network in order to access the election site.
The ACR RFS Executive Committee is the only representative RFS EC in organized radiology to be elected by its membership. The EC is composed of the Immediate Past Chair, Chair, Vice‐Chair/Chair‐Elect, Secretary, AMA Delegate/Advocacy Liaison, Education Liaison, Communications Officer and Radiation Oncology Representative.
Election of all officers occurs at the ACR Annual Meeting. Each officer serves a 1‐year term beginning at the conclusion of the AMCLC through the next‐years meeting, with the exception of the Vice‐Chair/Chair‐Elect who serves a three‐year term as outlined in the position descriptions. Candidates must complete a brief application and compose a statement to declare candidacy in advance of the meeting. Candidate speeches are limited to 2 minutes and will be given Saturday, May 4 from 2:45 – 3:45pm. Online voting opens immediately after the candidate speeches and will close Sunday at 2pm. The election results will be announced at the close of the RFS meeting Sunday afternoon.
Voting Tallying
Each state is allotted 1 vote per 25members‐in‐training which are divided evenly among the credentialed attendees at the RFS meeting. Credentialing occurs when attendees check‐in at the meeting. Votes are counted as fractions when appropriate and not rounded to a whole number. Each appropriately credentialed member may vote independently. If a state has no credentialed attendees, those votes are forfeited. The candidate with a plurality of votes at the close of polling is elected. In the unlikely event of a tie, the top two vote-getting candidates will enter a run-off.
